FEATURES OF TEACHING TECHNICAL ENGLISH
The article describes the main problems in technical English teaching as a part of young engineers’ education. The article notes the differences of technical English terminology in different areas of application. The grammar features of technical English, which use specific grammar structures, such as infinitives, gerund etc., are described. Also, it is specified that syllabus design needs to include some additional materials, like half-special textbooks. Article considers the problem of differences in students’ background and analyzes teaching methods in the case, when students’ English background is weak. Possible reasons of lack of students’ motivation are suggested. The article describes approved and promising teaching methods, such as text reading, translation and reverse translation, teaching methods that take into account the latest achievements of information technology, particularly in education. These new and perspective methods include Internet platforms, network communication and open-source projects. Also, the article addresses the problems of proper books compilation, which appear because teaching materials do not coincide with the professional, the difficulty of teaching materials is improper etc. The importance of teachers’ knowledge in both linguistic and technical areas is emphasized. The article concludes that all problems can be eliminated by improving the competencies of both teacher and student.
